Penticton led 5 to 3 at the end of the first period but the Vikings stormed back with 6 goals in the second period to secure the win.

Forward Shelby Munk played a strong game with two strong shots stopped by the Kelowna goalie. Vernon’s Jacura Trucking Junior B Vikings played a clean game serving only 2 minutes in penalties vs Kelowna’s 18 minutes in the box.

Vernon Jacura Trucking Junior Vikings participated in the Burnaby IceBreaker Tournament recently. The Junior B Vikings participated in the Junior A division in the tournament and came home with a 500 record. In Friday’s first game they burst out of the gate strong and led 5 to 3 at the end of the first period but the Burnaby team fought back with 5 unanswered goals in the second to win 8 to 5. Vernon goals were scored by Whitney Jacura – 2, Kaylee Barss, Megan Vadnais and Melanie Wakutz assisted by Ana Manton, Nicole Williams and Lisa Weatherill. Sarah Semph was rock solid in net for the whole tournament. Their second game was against the Delta powerhouse and they went down to an 8 – 0 defeat. Saturday was a whole new day and the Vikings fought hard to secure 2 wins. In the morning game against Poco a 5 to 3 win, Melanie Wakutz led the way with 2 goals and one assist, Lisa Weatherill had one goal and one assist and singles were scored by Miya Doige and Terri-Lyn Blatny. Also assisting were Kaylee Barss, Whitney Jacura and Ana Manton. The game winner by Lisa Weatherill was a hi-lite reel goal scored from her knees and flipped up behind her back into the net. The last game on Saturday evening was a nail biter with the winner being scored with only 3.4 seconds left on the clock. Melanie Wakutz led with a hat trick, Nicole Williams and Whitney Jacura with the game winner were the other scorers. Helpers were provided by Lisa Weatherill – 2 , Terri-Lyn Blatny and Miya Doige. Dinushi Fernando and Briana Ostafie worked their magic on the blue line for the whole weekend.
